Random facts about Chantilly

Chantilly  is  38.4 km  north-northeast from the centre of Paris. The village has enough charm to merit a visit but the Château de Chantilly , its gardens and the Stables are like a magic kingdom to visit.

The Château de Chantilly was home to the cousins of the kings of France, having for that reason belonged to various families trough the centuries.

The Great Stables were built by the order of one of the  Princes of Conde  and is the second jewel of the Domaine de Chantilly. Unique in the world in size, the quality of their architecture, the magnificence of their surroundings and their situation, they were built in the eighteenth century by the architect Jean Aubert.Popular legend says that the Prince though that he would reincarnate as a horse so he decided to build the stables so that he would have all the commodities possible.

The Great Stables shelter since 1982, the Living Horse Museum and during summer time have several horse shows .

I always though it was unrelated but actually Chantilly gave its name to Chantilly cream(whipped cream), and was popularised by the “maître d’hôtel”of the princes of Condé, François Vatel.
